Project Overview

Celestial Courtyard Garden is an intimate residential landscape designed as a meaningful outdoor environment for a young family. The design was inspired by the stars and planets overhead at the moments the clients’ two children were born, transforming a personal story into a landscape concept rooted in memory, movement, and connection to the natural world. Though modest in size, the courtyard was envisioned as a space that could feel both immersive and serene, offering a sense of discovery, symbolism, and everyday livability.

The design centers on circular concrete pads and flowing pathways that reference celestial bodies and orbital movement. These forms help organize the garden while creating a quiet rhythm throughout the space. The composition balances geometry with softness, using layered planting, beach pebble, and sculptural succulents to soften edges and create texture, depth, and seasonal interest. The result is a landscape that feels contemporary and artful while remaining warm, playful, and welcoming for daily family use.

A key goal of the project was to create an outdoor environment that could support multiple modes of use within a compact footprint. The garden provides space for wandering, gathering, reflection, and informal play, allowing the family to experience the landscape in different ways over time. Careful attention was given to the relationship between circulation, planting, and material expression so that the space would feel cohesive and intentional from every angle.

Rather than relying on size for impact, the project uses concept, proportion, and material contrast to create a strong sense of identity. Celestial Courtyard Garden demonstrates how a small residential landscape can be shaped by narrative and designed with both beauty and meaning in mind.
